Aged 42 in 2021, the broadcaster was told that she had stage two bowel cancer after noticing she was losing weight unintentionally, bloating and had blood in her stools. At first, a doctor told the ex Dancing On Ice star that she was likely too young for her symptoms to be cancer, until precautionary tests determined otherwise.
Reflecting on her cancer battle, the 45-year-old shared just how much the painful chemo took its toll on her body. "For me personally, the chemotherapy was worse than the actual diagnosis," she told Closer Magazine. "It felt like chemo erased who I was, it starts to make you feel like you're vanishing.
"I'd wake up every day and it felt like my feet were on fire. It took away my fingerprints, my skin was so sensitive that I had to wear gloves, it scarred my skin, it turned my tongue black and I could barely walk." Adele believes trying to stay positive, with the help of her long-term partner Kate, got her through the difficult process, and urges those also battling cancer to try and do the same.
