Tom investigated the toxic chemicals that are finding their way into our food (Image: BBC) Countryfile was flooded with complaints from viewers as they claimed that one segment was a "waste" of time. During Sunday’s episode of the BBC hit show, Sean Fletcher was back on our screens as he explored the new 721-hectare Borrowdale Rainforest National Nature Reserve. He met up with a team, who were tasked with protecting this ancient landscape and balancing the management of the reserve with the needs of local farmers.

However, it was co-star Tom Heap, who got everyone talking as he went to investigate the potentially toxic chemicals that are finding their way into our food. function loadOvpScript(){let el=document.createElement('script');el.

Viewers went straight to social media to share their reactions. One fumed that they "wasted 10 minutes" after watching the segment.

One viewer wrote: “So a waste of 10 minutes for Tom to tell us that there are small amounts (traces) of forever chemicals #countryfile.” Another fumed: “How many people will care about pesticides on food and potential cancer if it means cheap food? Also, going back to old methods, how will that work now we have huge population growth and a build build build mentality? #countryfile.” One said: “Think we'll just have to stop eating altogether to be safe #Countryfile," while a third commented: "Totally joyless programme.

#countryfile.” Meanwhile one added: “Why do @BBCCountryfile have Americans talking about UK issues? People switch off.” However, it wasn’t all bad as some viewers were pleased that the show returned for another episode tonight as one commented: “Anyone else love the tune to @BBCCountryfile.
