Carol Kirkwood has revealed that her stormy winter wedding almost ended in disaster. The 62-year-old BBC Breakfast star tied the knot with toyboy Steve Randall on December 27 last year. Treating fans to behind-the-scenes details about the stunning ceremony, the iconic forecaster hilariously revealed that her weather-predicting skills fell short when it came to planning her romantic do - as her wedding day was almost ruined by a massive storm.
Carol was previously married to Scottish businessman Jimmy Kirkwood for 25 years but they called time on their relationship after it “ran its course” back in 2008. Thankfully, the meteorologist found love again around seven years ago, when she met her 47-year-old Policeman beau at a work function. The happy couple tied the knot at a luxurious country house in Buckinghamshire last Christmas .
Speaking about the nuptials, Carol - who usually prefers to keep her personal life away from the spotlight - admitted not everything went according to the wedding plan. Opening up on The One Show , Carol told Alex Jones that her “perfect” wedding day could have almost been a disaster. She said: "It was the perfect day, it was a small intimate wedding it was beautiful, very romantic but there was a storm, can you believe it? Storm Gerrit!" Explaining that her forecasting skills only stretch so far, Carol continued: "When we booked it, obviously it was a bit in advance, so we didn't know there was going to be a storm.
I was watching it in the lead-up to the wedding, thinking: 'Nooo!'" Pointing out the irony, Alex joked: "[That] is terrible when you work in weather , that is bad. But you looked super happy and super beautiful in that picture, congratulations!" Thankfully, according to Carol, she and her groom were so in love that they “didn’t even notice” the blistering winds and rain. She previously described how she “would not have changed a thing about the day”, donning it the “most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding”.
Following her return to the BBC studio in January, Carol gushed: “I cannot tell you how fabulous it's been. It was the most perfect and romantic and intimate wedding - we are both so incredibly happy.” She added: "You shouldn't really be talking like this about your own wedding but it was blissful, it was romantic, it was absolutely perfect.
I would not change a thing about the day.” The star also opened up about the 14-year age gap between her and her husband, pointing out that it would not have gathered nearly as much attention if Steve had been older than her. Speaking to the Daily Express, Carol said: "If our ages were the other way around, nobody would ever mention it.
I’ve had a few comments but I don’t care. We’ve moved on from the days when he might have been described as my toyboy or people might call me a cougar. We’re happy together and that’s all that matters.
