BBC Breakfast viewers were thrilled to see presenter Emma Vardy back on their screens, a full year since she'd last graced the Salford studios of the show. Emma Vardy filled in for Nina Warhurst last summer as the programme's business expert before taking maternity leave for her baby son, Jago Fionn. She later announced an exciting career move, revealing she'd become the BBC's LA Correspondent and planned to move overseas with her family.

Fast forward to Monday, and Emma was back on BBC Breakfast, reporting from Chicago on the US Presidential election where she spearheaded the coverage of the Democratic convention, according to Hello! Taking to X, Emma posted: "We're all scrubbed up in Chicago where Kamala Harris gets her star turn at the Democratic Convention. (Tho hrs earlier I was covered in mud at a swing state demolition derby! ! )". "Watch @BBCBreakfast for the drama of the US Presidential race and some wreckage of a brutal clash!!" While Emma returned from maternity leave several months ago, her new role means viewers won't catch her on the red sofa anymore.

However, viewers who've been missing her regular stints were ecstatic to spot her on the broadcast on Monday, reports the Express . One enthused: "Excellent, keep up your great work..

After giving birth to a baby boy in September with her husband Aaron Adams, Emma announced she would not be returning to familiar early mornings on the show due to an exciting career move across the pond. She said: "We've certainly had our hands (and hearts) full lately, now there's a big adventure ahead for my wee family," wrote the broadcaster.

She then revealed, "After an incredible 5 years in Northern Ireland, Jago Fionn @mr_plusone and I are off to actual Hollywood!" Emma confirmed her new job as the BBC's Los Angeles Correspondent, where she would cover everything from glitzy red carpets to political milestones, all while possibly catching some sunlit waves. She also expressed her affection for Northern Ireland stating, "I've absolutely loved my time in Northern Ireland and it will always have a very special place in my heart. Will treasure our final weeks before we say goodbye NI [heart emoji].

" Emma made her comeback to the working world in January after several months of maternity leave, just in time to report on the Golden Globes. Excitedly, she announced her return on her social media, writing: "I'm BA-ACK," and sharing a photo from the event's red carpet. "After a glorious maternity leave, and I loved every gorgeous minute of it, mamma's gotta get out and earn the dollar.

First day as LA Correspondent and diving straight into red carpet prep for the @goldenglobes." BBC Breakfast is on BBC One weekdays at 6am.
