The BBC has had a major schedule change as Breakfast finished two hours early to make room for the Olympics. The Paris 2024 Olympics has began, with much of the coverage being shown on the BBC . However, this means that usual programming is being disrupted.

Saturday morning saw BBC Breakfast come to an end at 8am instead of the usual 10am finish time. Usually, Matt Tebbutt would then take over with Saturday Kitchen but fans of the show may have been disappointed this morning as it was replaced with sports coverage instead. Coming to the end of the programme, Charlie Stayt said: "Lots to look forward to of course, the Olympics are officially under way.

" While Naga Munchetty added: "Hence we will be leaving you now. But of course Breakfast will be back tomorrow from 6am. Thanks for watching - enjoy your weekend.

" However, some viewers weren't happy that BBC Breakfast was cut short today. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter , one said: "Olympics at 8 in the morning dear lord." As a second wrote: "bbcbreakfast finishing at 8.

00am and proper news being shown on the BBC’s dedicated news channel." The schedule shake up comes as ahead of the opening ceremony, BBC presenter Paula Radcliffe described herself as "mortified" after wishing luck to a convicted rapist who is competing at the Olympics. Dutch beach volleyball player Steven Van de Velde served time in prison for the rape of a 12-year-old girl in 2014 and has controversially been selected for the Games.

In an interview with LBC, former marathon runner turned pundit Radcliffe said that it was a "tough thing to punish him twice" and that she "wished him the best of luck", drawing parallels with drugs cheats who are given second chances in sport. However, writing on X on Thursday, Radcliffe said: "I am mortified that I expressed it so badly and didn’t condemn the rape out loud. I do believe in second chances after serving punishment but think the Olympics should be for those who uphold the ideals (that’s why I poorly brought the doping comparison in).

" In other posts, Radcliffe, who holds the British marathon record, said: "I myself am shocked and disappointed at how I expressed this so badly." She then went on to add: "I really apologise for the way I phrased this. The utter condemnation of the crime in my head went without saying but I should have clarified that.

Instead I poorly jumped to explaining why It would be great to exclude all who betray ideals but legally not possible." Follow Mirror Celebs on TikTok , Snapchat , Instagram , Twitter , Facebook , YouTube and Threads ..
