Italian rescuers are still searching for several missing people, including British tech tycoon Mike Lynch, following the sinking of a superyacht off the coast of Sicily. The luxury yacht Bayesian sank to a depth of 54 yards after it was hit by a storm near the coast of Palermo at about 5am local time on Monday. One person is confirmed to have died, believed to be the ship's chef, while 15 people survived the disaster.

Italian crews from Rome, Sassari and Cagliari have been brought in to assist in the search effort. An operation is due to be launched today to search the Bayesian for any of the six people still missing, including Lynch and his 18-year-old daughter. Who is still reported missing? Ayla Reynold, a New Zealand national, working at British legal firm Clifford Chance survived the disaster. Her dad Lin Ronald told The Telegraph that she had been invited aboard as thanks for assisting Lynch during the case. He added: "I have texted my daughter and she hasn't given me any updates about missing personnel or saved personnel.

"She has only said that there are deaths and she and her partner are alive. Ayla is a lawyer who is part of the legal team that were invited to go sailing as a result of the success in the recent United States court case." Another survivor, Brit tourist Charlotte Emsley, told La Repubblica that she held her one-year-old daughter, Sofia, to stop her from drowning.

She said: "I held her afloat with all my strength, my arms stretched upwards to keep her from drowning. It was all dark. In the water I couldn't keep my eyes open.

I screamed for help but all I could hear around me was the screams of others." Separate death Lynch's co-defendant Stephen Chamberlain died in a separate incident over the weekend. He died after he was fatally struck while out for a run in Cambridgeshire.

According to the Guardian , Chamberlain's lawyer said: "He was a courageous man with unparalleled integrity, and we deeply miss him. He fought successfully to clear his good name, which lives on through his wonderful family.”.
