Welcome to the FC Bayern Campus round up, where this week’s U-17, U-19 and U-23 Bayern Munich youth games are recapped for your convenience. After all, most people do not want to spend 5 dollars a month to watch Bayern’s youth games. But this sucker did and is set to give you a recap of the games that were played this weekend.

Because the U-17s’ season has not yet kicked off, only the U-19 and U-23 games will be discussed today. The highlights of each game will be linked on top of the scoreline displayed for the games and one of them is even available to watch for free. FC Nürnberg II 1-2 Bayern II (U-23) Bayern II lineup (and substitutes): Ballis - Manuba, Dettoni, Breitkreuz, Brückner (46.

Della Rovere) - Becker (46. Denk), Dell’Erba, Asp Jensen (85. Qashi) - Demircan (87.

Wimmer), Kern, Wagner (46. Scott). Bayern’s U-23 side, or Bayern II, played their third game of the season and continued their unbeaten streak as they ground out a narrow 2-1 victory of FC Nürnberg’s U-23 team.

Due to seven Bayern II youngsters traveling with the senior team to Seoul and five players unavailable due to injury, the squad squad was left quite depleted. But then again, when is it not? Fortunately, Emirhan Demircan returned from the U-19 Euros after his team Turkey were knocked in the quarterfinals, while new star signing Guido Della Rovere was finally registered for the Regionalliga Bayern, just one day before this game took place. However, the latter had to start the match on the bench.

And so Bayern traveled to Nürnberg on a renewed quest to win three points. But it was inauspicious start for the Bavarians in red. Despite having the better of the first 4 minutes, one errant pass at the back resulted in the Nürnberg striker running through on goal, warding off a couple challenges, rounding the goalkeeper and finishing excellently past Bayern’s goalkeeper Benjamin Ballis.

Bayern did not let themselves be cowed, continuing to dominate possession and dictate the game as the hosts shut down the shop and looked to defend in numbers. But there was simply no way through to their Bavarian neighbors’ goal and so the team trudged into halftime 1-0 down, having created very little. Head coach Holger Seitz knew changes needed to be made and so Bayern came out at half time with three new players, one of them Della Rovere.

The Italian impressed on his debut, showing some neat touches and real technical quality on the ball. But this game would not be decided by him, as instead Jonathan Asp Jensen lofted the ball into the box from a free kick at the around the hour mark for captain Timo Kern to head it home and level the scores at 1-1. Kern is one of the few players in the team over 23 at 34-years-old, as an experienced head whose main job it is to provide experience next to the young guns.

He can be inconsistent at times, but he always rises to the big occasion. So when Bayern finally won a penalty in the 80th minute due to a foul on Demircan (after multiple very valid penalty calls were waved aside) there was only one man who would step up to take it. One would not have noticed that Kern had the result of the entire match on his shoulders as he stepped up and casually fooled the goalkeeper with a Panenka chip.

That brought the scoreline to 2-1 in Bayern’s favor, a lead the team would not relinquish before the final whistle. The win leaves Bayern II at 5th with seven points after three games, two points behind joint leaders 1. FC Schweinfurt and SpVgg Bayreuth.

And would you look at that, Bayern II’s next game will be against SpVgg Bayreuth on Friday at 12:00pm CST. The game will likely only be available to watch in full via an FC Bayern TV subscription, though. U-19 Bayern 5-2 U-19 Greuther Fürth U-19 Bayern XI (and substitutes): Klanac - Ofli (80.

Schäfer), Puljić, Mijatović, Dalpiaz (73. Kouam) - Santos, Sadat (59. Durakov), Nasrawe (73.

Yildiz), Chávez, Binder (73. Chemwor) - Eckl (59. Codjo-Evora) This game is available for free via this link and it was truly one to watch.

If you have time, give it a watch. This was Bayern U-19’s first game of the season after a radical restructuring of the squad over the summer, as the vast majority of last season’s U-19 squad either moved on in the summer or was promoted. But the beauty of the matter is that this team still know each other very well, with the majority of the newcomers having been promoted from the U-17s squad that nearly won the last season together.

Additionally, last season’s U-17 head coach Peter Gaydarov was also promoted to the position of U-19 head coach in the summer. So despite seven absentees due to injury, these players proved just how valuable it can be for a squad to know each other. Lining up with an incredible starting XI that somehow boasted players with the shirt numbers 1-11 all standing on the pitch, they started dominating.

Bayern wasted no time putting the pressure on the visitors, nearly opening the scoring in the second minute only for a cool finish into the bottom corner to be ruled out for offside. But the boys in red continued to utterly dominate and display lovely skill on the ball, pulling Greuther Fürth’s attempts at a press apart at the seams and playing past them like it was nothing. By the 68 minute mark, it was 4-0 and the scoreline very much reflected the balance of play.

However, Germany’s U-19 league format recently underwent a major overhaul. One of the big changes in the overhaul was to allow teams to make seven substitutions in a match, in order to give as much of the squad time to play and develop. Gaydarov took advantage of this rule, making six substitutes by the 80 minute mark.

The problem is, these substitutions caused instability among the previously dominant Bayern and led to a late collapse in which Bayern allowed Greuther Fürth to create an astonishing amount of chances due to some truly terrible defending after the 80 minute mark, two of which ended up as goals. When Bayern finally finished the scoring with the 5th goal in the 89th minute, there was a sense of relief rather than joy for Bayern. They had nearly blown it despite an overall phenomenal performance.

The win leaves Bayern’s U-19 side second in the table, only behind on goal difference to 1860 Munich’s U-19 team and level on goal difference with SpVgg Unterhaching. The latter will be Bayern’s next opponent as the U-19s will face Unterhaching’s U-19s next on August 10 at 4AM CST. There will be no news on whether it is possible to watch this game for free, as well, but history tells us to expect it to be behind a paywall.
