Pune: Two men snatched a Bavdhan resident ’s gold chain worth Rs30,000 on Bhugaon Road near Chandni Chowk around 8.30pm while he was returning home on his scooter. The Hinjewadi Police said the duo intercepted the 52-year-old victim’s scooter, claiming that he took a turn without giving an indicator and started arguing with him.

One of them snatched the victim’s chain from his trouser pocket after which the duo fled. One officer from the Hinjewadi police said that the complainant is an employee of a private company and stays in a housing society off Bhugaon Road in Bavdhan. “He was returning home on his scooter from Chandni Chowk.



While turning towards the right, two men, who were following him on a motorcycle, forced the victim to stop,” the officer said. He said that the duo picked up a quarrel with the victim by claiming that he took a turn without indicating. "The pillion rider then approached the victim and began abusing him.

While the victim was trying to talk to the man, the latter frisked him and took out the chain from the pocket of the victim's trousers," the officer said. He said the duo then drove away from the spot. "The victim later approached the police and lodged a complaint," he said.

The police have registered a case under sections 318 (cheating) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "We will check with the Pune city police, whether there is any link between the duo, who stole the victim's gold chain at Bavdhan and the three robberies that happened in the last week," the officer said. A case for offences under sections 318 (cheating) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered by the Hinjewadi police.

Similarly, a two-wheeler rider was robbed of his chain worth Rs30,000 in a similar manner by two men on bike near PMC main building in Shivajinagar on August 15. Prior to that, a 20-year-old college student and another man were robbed near Sundarabai Rathi school on Laxmi Road and in Karve Nagar, respectively.
