A Barco UDX was deployed to project a range of outfits on to a life-sized Barbie figure at the Her Universe Fashion Show 2024. The focus of the event, which was held at Comic-Con International in San Diego, was celebrating the timeless charm of toy brand Mattel’s most beloved products, including Barbie, Polly Pocket, Uno and Hot Wheels. Her Universe, founded by Ashley Eckstein, is renowned for innovative fashion and lifestyle products that cater to fandom communities.
The brand’s 2024 fashion show not only marked a decade of the Her Universe Fashion Show, but also celebrated significant anniversaries for Mattel’s iconic brands – 65 years of Barbie and 35 years of Polly Pocket. The show featured outfits by 25 designers, each of whom was competing for the chance to create a fashion collection with Her Universe. The runway was a colourful tribute to Mattel’s enduring influence on pop culture.
The vibrant designs inspired by the company’s classic products required exceptional brightness, sharp image quality and spot-on colour representation, as any glitches could detract from the illusion. With the audience’s experience and the designers' hard work at stake, AOA – an immersive experiences design, production and project management group – opted for a UDX-W40 projector to illuminate the striking Barbie couture on the runway. The Barco projector ensured that Her Universe’s creative vision coalesced with AOA’s special effects to create a smooth blend between fas.
