Former President Barack Obama hasn't endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris for the Democratic nomination this year because he believes she has long odds to win. That's according to the New York Post, which cited a source close to the family of President Joe Biden, who dropped out of the race over the weekend. "Obama’s very upset because he knows she can’t win ,” the Biden family source told the Post.

The source added: “Obama knows she’s just incompetent — the border czar who never visited the border, saying that all migrants should have health insurance. She cannot navigate the landmines that are ahead of her.” Read also: George Clooney called Barack Obama before publicly asking Biden to drop out: report Obama notably didn't mention Harris in his statement following Biden's decision to drop out of the race.

In that statement, he said his former vice president was "one of America’s most consequential presidents, as well as a dear friend and partner to me." "Today, we’ve also been reminded – again – that he’s a patriot of the highest order," said Obama. “We will be navigating uncharted waters in the days ahead," Obama added.

"But I have extraordinary confidence that the leaders of our party will be able to create a process from which an outstanding nominee emerges.” Facing questions about why he didn't immediately endorse Harris, a former Obama aide noted that Obama didn't previously endorse the Democratic nominee until after the nominee was decided at the Democratic convention. Biden himself also reportedly expressed doubts about Harris' chances of defeating Donald Trump in the election.

Three aides familiar with discussions about his plans told Axios that Biden and his senior advisers are worried that Harris isn't up to the challenge of taking on the Republican nominee. Former President Donald Trump took to his Truth Social account on Wednesday to whine that he can't say everything he wants about Vice President Kamala Harris, his likely opponent in November, because of a gag order imposed on him in his legal cases. "The Gag Order unConstitutionally placed on me is interfering with my Campaign against Lyin’ Kamala Harris," Trump raged.

"This is a FIRST in American History - A Highly Conflicted Democrat Judge putting a Gag Order on the Leading Candidate for President to benefit my Democrat Opponent." "Can this really be allowed to stand?" he raged. It is unclear what Trump means.

Presumably, he is referring to the gag order in the Manhattan hush money case, where he was recently convicted on 34 counts of felony falsification of business records. He has been subject to a number of other gag orders in various civil and criminal cases, but none appear to prevent him from criticizing Harris.

An alternate possibility is that Trump fears responding to Harris' attacks on him for being adjudicated to have sexually abused writer E. Jean Carroll in a civil suit. The risk there is less the possibility of a gag order, but that Carroll could sue him again for repeating his attacks that he has no idea who she is and that she fabricated her rape claims to advance her career.

Harris became the likely nominee for the presidency after President Joe Biden, dogged for weeks by pressure from his own party over his health and fitness, withdrew from his campaign to seek a second term and endorsed her to take his place. Trump held his first public campaign event at the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte since the attempt on his life at a Pennsylvania rally earlier this month. “The fake news say her crowd was amazing,” Trump said, estimating it had "maybe” a thousand people. “They said it was such a big crowd, such a beautiful crowd they never mention our crowd.

They never want to do it.” Photos of the event showed rows of empty seats in the upper part of the arena as the crowd filled in, but it’s unclear just how many were in attendance Wednesday. Watch the clip below or at this link .

CONTINUE READING Show less One of the attacks Republicans have deployed against Kamala Harris is making fun of her laugh , a similar tactic used against Hillary Clinton, who was described in 2016 as "cackling," a sound a witch would make. Republican Party social media accounts posted a video of Harris chuckling with the caption, "Kamala Harris brought her cackle to Milwaukee: 'Good afternoon, Wisconsin! Ha ha ha ha!'" The comment earned jeers in the comment section. "You are frightened by the emotion of joy?" asked someone in the comments .

The Washington Post reported Sunday , citing a senior Republican involved in the Trump campaign, that there will be "attacks on her laugh and her tendency to say awkward things." Read also: Trump vs. Harris will seem compressed.

But it’s the norm elsewhere. “We are going to cut up so many clips,” the person promised. MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace played a clip of Harris speaking to Drew Barrymore's show about her laughter being the same as her late mother's.

Barrymore put her hand to her heart, sighing, "Aww." Harris says in the clip that she remembers growing up with women sitting around tables drinking coffee and laughing and doesn't want to stigmatize children, especially, away from expressing their laughter. Memes have spread online saying, "Make America Laugh Again," a play on Trump's long-time MAGA slogan.

Etsy has exploded with merchandise from hats to t-shirts featuring the slogan. Writer and longtime political analyst John Heileman pointed to the attacks on a "cackling Clinton" as well as the obvious sexism. "Anybody heard Donald Trump laugh? Laughter in life is — this is an odd political point — but laughter is infectious," said Heileman.

"When you see someone laugh, if they break character on SNL, you catch the bug. You start to laugh along with them. It's one of the important signs of humanity.

And I think anybody who you've never seen laugh is probably a sociopath." "So, having said that, I just want to come back to pull these two threads together and talk about efficacy to talk about why this DEI argument is a bad argument from the political standpoint," he pivoted to talk about Republicans claiming Harris only got where she is because she was a Black woman. He explained that about 7 percent of Americans will determine the election, many of whom are people of color and young people whose enthusiasm Democrats will count on.

"But this argument that they are making, which is why her framing of future versus past, this argument is an old argument. It sounds old to young people. And it reminds people of color, whether they are brown skin or black skin or whatever, that of all things that Maya is saying, what's embedded in that is this notion that they want to take you back.

And the argument sounds archaic. It doesn't sound like 2024 in America," he said. He said attacking her this way is "reminding people how out of step they are with modern America.
