August 13, (THEWILL) – Former United States of America President, Barack Obama, has added songs by Nigerian stars, Temilade Openiyi, aka Tems and Divine Ikubor, aka Rema, to his 2024 summer playlist. The Obama summer playlist has become some kind of reference point these past few years, with music lovers across genres looking out for its release every summer. The selection, curated by Obama himself showing his current musical preferences, usually includes an eclectic selection of songs from all over the world.

The 2024 playlist, which contains 44 old and new songs, includes Tems’ hit ‘Love Me Jeje’, which samples a late 1990s song of the same title by Seyi Sodimu. Rema’s hit ‘Yayo’, a song off his second studio album ‘Heis’ released last month, is also in the prestigious Obama playlist. The playlist was announced via Obama’s X handle, to his 131 million followers on Monday night.

“With summer winding down, I wanted to share some songs that I’ve been listening to lately – and it wouldn’t be my playlist if it didn’t include an eclectic mix. I hope you find something new to listen to!”, he wrote. The playlist also includes some American classics like the late 2Pac’s ‘How Do You Want It’ and Blackstreet’s ‘No Diggity’ among other great songs.

This is not the first time Obama will include songs by Nigerian arristes in his summer playlist, with the likes of Wizkid, Burna Boy, Arya Starr and others having featured in the past. In a recent video interview, the 63-year-old Obama, who was USA President between 2009 and 2017, revealed that his daughters, Sasha and Malia, helped keep his musical tastes current and broaden his musical horizons. “I get referrals from my daughters — which keeps me not stuck in the ’80s,” the first Black President in American history said.

“I’ve got some newer stuff, some older stuff. I tend to mix it up.”.
