Bangladeshi silent film "Nirvana", directed by Asif Islam, has recently bagged the Special Jury Award at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF). However, Moscow wasn't the end of the road for this rising star. Just a few weeks ago, "Nirvana" also claimed an award at the Ganges-sur-Seine International Film Festival in France.
The film is on its way to Kazakhstan for yet another prestigious event. The 17th Eurasia International Film Festival will screen "Nirvana" as part of its official competition. The festival runs from November 24 to December 1, with "Nirvana" slated for screening on November 25.
Speaking to Kaler Kantho, director Asif Islam shared, "It was unexpected, but they confirmed the film for the competition section. With the short notice, I had to rush through the visa process." He added that 11 films from 11 countries will be competing at the festival.
Asif is set to travel to Kazakhstan on December 23 to attend the screening and participate in discussions about the film and Bangladesh's burgeoning film industry. "Nirvana" is a silent film that tells the emotional journey of three factory workers without dialogue, featuring Priyam Archi, Fatema Tuz Zohra, and Imran Mahathir. The film, shot in black and white due to budget limitations, focuses on themes of grief, loss, and self-discovery.
Priyam Archi describes it as a "meditative experience" that invites viewers to engage with the unspoken emotions of the characters..
