Bananas will stay fresh two weeks longer if stored in the best spot in the ktichen (Image: Getty) Bananas are a staple in the kitchen as they are a perfect snack or quick breakfast, but it can be annoying when they go black and squishy before their expiration date. Storing bananas in a fruit bowl may seem obvious but this is the worst place in the kitchen to keep them and knowing the best spot to keep them fresh can make them last weeks longer. Most fruits produce ethylene gas, a plant growth hormone that causes ripening, and when too much fruit is stored together the concentration of this gas will cause everything to spoil quickly.
