Wednesday, January 22, 2025 The Balearic Islands are taking center stage at the International Tourism Fair (Fitur 2025), held in Madrid from January 22 to 26. With a refreshed focus on sustainable tourism and local gastronomy, the islands aim to position themselves as leaders in environmentally conscious travel while showcasing their unique cultural identity. The Tourism Strategy Agency (Aetib) has coordinated the Balearic Islands’ presence at Fitur, introducing a 1,000-square-meter stand inspired by water and its ecosystems.
Funded through the European Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience Plan, the stand highlights the importance of preserving natural resources while providing functional spaces, including: The stand itself is constructed with sustainable materials, reflecting the islands’ commitment to eco-friendly practices. Balearic Islands President Margalida Prohens and Tourism Minister Jaume Bauzà will present the region’s transformative tourism model on January 22. This plan balances economic development with environmental preservation by promoting activities that support sustainability and local engagement.
Key initiatives include: The gastronomy space at the stand will feature 25 live cooking demonstrations coordinated by the Conselleria de Agricultura, Pesca y Medio Natural.
