It’s been a year since the launch of Baldur’s Gate 3, and Larian Studios’ sprawling RPG has deservedly maintained its presence on the modern video game zeitgeist. And as the fame and history of the game steadily expand, more tidbits regarding its development continue to surface, this time with director Swen Vincke revealing that they had initially planned to make “many more regions” in its already-expansive setting of the Forgotten Realms. In addition, according to Vincke’s interview with BAFTA , they had also intended for Moonrise Towers to appear as two separate towers instead of a single, hulking structure.

Unfortunately, they had to scrap the second tower (along with their original plan for more regions) because “the game was getting too big.” Yes, despite Baldur’s Gate 3 already having three different, sprawling areas you can explore for hours on end, it could have been even bigger, which its dedicated fan base would have undoubtedly welcomed. Now, we wouldn’t blame you for thinking these yet-to-be-developed maps would be perfect for an exciting story continuation.

But alas, Vincke had already quashed any rumors or hopes regarding a potential Baldur’s Gate 3 expansion. In an interview with IGN back in March, he revealed that they decided to stop production on a future DLC because “the team’s work wasn’t really coming from the heart.” “And we’re very much a studio from the heart,” he added.

Of course, this won’t be the last time you see the Larian Studios logo plastered on a game’s opening screen. The development team seemingly already has an idea of their next creation after Vincke teased that it will be “different than what you think it is” in the same interview. But until they provide a glimpse into the next fantastical world they build, we’ll have to wait and let our imaginations run wild until then.

Either that or start another Baldur’s Gate 3 save with patch 7 coming up..
