Pune: Two cash dispensing units of white label ATMs (an RBI-authorised non-banking entity) at Rahu and Varvand in Daund taluka, about 65km from the city, were damaged in back-to-back failed attempts to break them open in the early hours of Tuesday. The Pune Rural police personnel said the two ATMs collectively contained Rs14 lakh and it was safe because the culprits were unable to break the cash tray of the damaged units. A case has been registered with the Yavat police under sections 305(A) (theft in a dwelling house) and 324 (5) [mischief causing loss or damage to the amount of more than Rs 1 lakh] of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The distance between Rahu and Varvand village is 4km. The thieves first struck at the ATM kiosk in Rahu village around 2.15am on Tuesday.
