Monday, September 16, 2024 On September 12th, the Azerbaijan Tourism Board took part in the 13th Wiener Reisebürotag held at Aux Gazelles in Vienna, an event gathering prominent Viennese tour operators and travel agencies, organized by the Austrian Economic Chambers (WKO). Azerbaijan was spotlighted as the featured destination of the year, and the event, titled “Azerbaijan: Land of Eternal Fire,” offered an immersive introduction to the nation’s vibrant culture and diverse tourism opportunities to an audience of 150-180 industry professionals. In addition to the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, Aviareps representing Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) and Elite Tours showcased exclusive travel packages, highlighting the country’s unique attractions and experiences.

The event began with a welcome speech from Mag. Gregor Kadanka, Chairman of the Wiener Reisebürotag, and Florian Sengstschmid, CEO of the Azerbaijan Tourism Board, followed by a dynamic networking session among key players from the international travel industry. The evening’s highlights included a performance by the celebrated Azerbaijani pianist and composer Isfar Sarabski.



Azerbaijan presents a wide array of attractions, from the cosmopolitan energy of Baku, with its UNESCO-listed Old City, to the stunning Caucasus Mountains, the peaceful shores of the Caspian Sea, and the rich heritage of the ancient Silk Road found in the historic town of Sheki. Modern travellers can enjoy an array of world-class amenities, including luxury hotels, fine dining, and upscale shopping centres. A week spent exploring Baku’s architectural wonders and top-tier restaurants can be complemented by ventures into Azerbaijan’s more remote regions.

Visitors can uncover the Silk Road’s legacy in Sheki and the quaint mountain village of Basgal, known for its traditional kelaghayi-making, an exquisite Azerbaijani silk scarf crafted using natural dyes. For a true nomadic adventure, travellers can ascend to the mountaintop village of Khinalig, perched 2,220 metres high in the Greater Caucasus Mountains. Newly developed hiking trails guide visitors through ancient paths, unveiling lush landscapes and captivating historic villages.

AZAL Airlines provides convenient direct flights from Vienna to Baku three times a week—on Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Austrian citizens can apply for an e-VISA via evisa.gov.
