FAMILIES have discovered a lesser-known resort with its own waterpark in the UK that they have described as being "more chilled" than places like Center Parcs. Finding a decent holiday spot to take the family can be difficult, especially during the busier months, but Finlake Resort in Devon might just be the best option. The holiday park has plenty to offer people of all ages for family holidays , with a spa and a heated pool with flumes and slides part of its many offerings.

It's also picked up several awards over the years, including a Visit England Gold Award, along with five star ratings in the Holiday & Touring Park and Holiday Park categories, also awarded by Visit England. For older kids and adults, things like axe throwing, laser tag and laser clay pigeon shooting are among the more high octane things people can get involved with. Meanwhile, sand art, junior crafts and a segway safari are more appropriate for the resort's younger visitors.

For parents visiting for a relaxing break, there are a number of spa treatments available on site in the Sirona Spa, including saunas, massages from fully-trained therapists and jacuzzis to help them unwind. Meanwhile, there's a fitness centre there too, offering classes from yoga to spin along with free-weights.

Haulfryn Holidays , who own the Finlake resort, have promised that their "traditional holistic therapies" will leave visitors with "naturally, beautiful skin, a renewed sense of inner calm and their mind, body and soul refreshed". The Finlake website invites people to "Make a splash, whether that be racing down our thrilling flume rides or doing powerful lengths in our 20 metre heated indoor pool, kept at a constant 30C".

However, for families who prefer to take a dip in the sea, rather than a pool, there's options to do that too, with beaches like Teignmouth , Ness Cove, Watcombe and Oddicombe among a number of places just a short drive away. Also close by is Devon's South Down countryside, with the resort found right on the edge of Dartmoor, home to plenty of walking trails and small towns and villages to exploor. Places like Ashburton, Bovey Tracey and Hennock are among the places nearby, each with pubs perfect for refreshments after a day's exploration, many of which serve food too.

But on-site eateries like The Hub and The Retreat mean that families need not travel far at all to find great food options, if they don't want to.
