Avelo's Big Play in Connecticut They say good things come in threes, and yesterday, Avelo Airlines (Avelo) adhered to that rule at Tweed New Haven Airport by doubling its flights to Puerto Rico, adding a nonstop route to New Orleans and expanding the fleet of Boeing 737-800s at its largest base. The low-cost carrier has proclaimed itself as "Connecticut's Airline," citing its 34 routes from the state, 27 of which are operated at Tweed New Haven (HVN). Avelo commenced services on April 28, 2021 , and since then, it has carried more than 5.

2 million passengers on more than 40,000 flights. It serves 54 destinations covering 25 US states, Puerto Rico and two popular international vacation and leisure destinations, Mexico and Jamacia. New Haven is Avelo's largest base, with more than 250 Crewmembers looking after flights to 27 nonstop destinations.

The carrier’s Chief Operating Officer explained how the airline only canceled two flights last month. Avelo currently operates one flight twice weekly to San Juan, Puerto Rico, from HVN, and yesterday, it announced it is doubling that for the winter season to four weekly flights from Friday, November 8, 2024. The service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, with the current flights departing HVN at 06:30 to arrive at San Juan Luis Munoz Marin International (SJU) at 10:25.

The return service departs at 11:20 and is back in New Haven at 15:25. A new route to Bourbon Street More services to warmer parts of the US during winter will be good news for residents in the Northeast of the country, and Avelo has obliged by adding flights from New Haven to New Orleans , commencing on Thursday, November 14, 2024. The route will operate twice weekly on Thursdays and Saturdays from HVN to Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY).

Speaking about the extra services, Avelo Founder and CEO Andrew Levy said the airline is proud to be "Connecticut's Airline" and continue growth in New Haven with a new route to New Orleans, plus more Puerto Rico flights this winter and increased customer capacity. He added: "With 27 nonstop destinations to choose from at Tweed, it's easier than ever for travelers to experience our convenient, affordable and reliable air service. I appreciate the support Avelo has received from government, community and business leaders across the state and send special thanks to our awesome Connecticut Crewmembers who make it all happen.

" Avelo has a fleet of 19 Boeing 737NGs , including the 737-700 and 737-800 variants. The airline said it is "expanding the lineup" of 737-800s at Tweed New Haven so it can significantly grow its convenient, affordable and reliable air service in Southern Connecticut. Beginning in November, Avelo will add more 737s for the winter season to have "eight aircraft dedicated to HVN," and more than half of the total fleet dedicated to the state of Connecticut.

The airline will be the only carrier offering scheduled commercial passenger operations at Lakeland. Avelo has six bases located at Los Angeles Hollywood Burbank (BUR), Tweed New Haven (HVN), the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region's Wilmington Airport (ILG), Raleigh-Durham International (RDU) and the Bay Area's Sonoma County Airport (STS). In October, it will open its Central Florida Base at Lakeland International Airport (LAL).
