There are few film franchises where a simple title reveal is enough to excite audiences. , and James Bond among them. And then there’s , which stands as a class as its own.

While the franchise doesn’t have many films to its name, the first (2009) stands as the highest grossing film of all time, and sequel (2022) holds the record for the third highest grossing movie ever. So when James Cameron announced that his third Avatar will be titled , it was enough to spark big applause at Friday. “There are new cultures and settings and creatures, and new biomes.



You will see a lot more of Pandora, the planet, that you’ve never seen before,” said Cameron of the movie. “The new film is not what you expect, but it’s definitely what you want.” Cameron returns to direct the new , which has a script from Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.

It once again stars Sam Worthington and Zoe Saldana, and it is slated for Dec. 19, 2025. Disney and 20th Century Studios have two more Avatar films on the docket.
