Tuesday, August 20, 2024 Avanti West Coast faces a significant 13.95% disruption rate on its Birmingham Airport line, highlighting ongoing challenges with delays and cancellations. The analysis by QR Code Generato r, based on data from the Office of Rail and Road over the past year, identified the UK train lines with the highest cancellation and delay rates.

Avanti West Coast, which only operates services to one UK airport, Birmingham International, had an average monthly delay or cancellation rate of 13.95 per cent. CrossCountry, serving nine airports including Birmingham, Bournemouth, Bristol, Exeter, Leeds Bradford, London Stansted, Newcastle, Southampton, and Teesside, followed closely with a rate of 13.



72 per cent. The London North Eastern Railway (LNER), serving Leeds Bradford, Newcastle, and Teesside, ranked third with an average of 10.38 per cent of trains delayed or cancelled per month.

TransPennine Express, serving four airports, had a monthly disruption rate of 7.88 per cent, while Transport for Wales (TfW) recorded an average rate of 7.8 per cent.

On the other hand, the study also highlighted the most reliable train lines. Greater Anglia topped the list with only 2.22 per cent of its services delayed or cancelled monthly.

It operates routes to London Southend, London Stansted, and Norwich. ScotRail ranked second with a disruption rate of 3.07 per cent.

When booking a train for your holiday, it’s advisable to leave ample time to avoid affecting your flight in case of cancellations. Consider traveling the day before and staying closer to the airport. Also, bring plenty of water and entertainment to stay hydrated and occupied if you face extended wait times.
