Pune: The Parvati police on Thursday registered a case against an autorickshaw driver on the charge of stalking and outraging the modesty of a 14-year-old schoolgirl between August 24 and 28 near Janata Vasahat, when she was returning home. The girl on Thursday informed her mother about the incident. The girl’s mother immediately approached the police and lodged a complaint.

The police have registered a case against the autorickshaw driver under sections 78 (stalking) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the BNS and the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. An officer from the Parvati police said the student had hired the suspect’s autorickshaw while returning home from school on August 24. He said according to the complainant, before dropping her daughter home, the driver had told the girl to elope with him.



He had also allegedly told her that they would get married. The police officer said the autorickshaw driver had told the schoolgirl that he would bear the expenses of her education. “We are yet to arrest him,” he said.
