The Parkside Holdings Pty Ltd in Australia has assured to employ more Papua New Guineans under the seasonal workers program. Parkside Group Health, Safety and Environment manager, David Millard, gave this assurance to hundreds of candidates for this program from Unggai-Bena District in Goroka, Eastern Highlands Province. He was part of the representatives of some of Australia’s approved employers who were on a day tour to the district yesterday (Tuesday).
He said they are working with Palm in running a timber mill in South Pacific countries, including Australia. “We have some PNG workers in there and my management team has told me that we will get you to work with us,” he said. “We may be a small employer but remember that we will be recruiting 120 workers every four years.
That is the passage for the next generation to come through and work for Parkside and other employers in Australia, and I think that is a wonderful thing.” Impressed at the interest shown by the candidates and their supporters that include families and relatives, senior officers from the provincial and district administrations and their major sponsor, Unggai-Bena District Development Authority, under the leadership of local MP Kinoka Feo, who is also the Minister for Higher Education, Research Science and Technology, Mr Millard said: “I am seeing the previous potential employers may not have visited your beautiful country and have missed the opportunity to see the interest you are showing us to.
