Thursday, October 3, 2024 The Australian Airports Association (AAA), representing airports nationwide, has announced Simon Westaway as its new Chief Executive Officer. With a career spanning over 25 years in senior leadership, Mr. Westaway brings a deep well of experience to this pivotal role.
His professional journey includes key executive positions within the aviation and tourism industries, notably at Jetstar (a division of Qantas Group), Impulse Airlines, and Tourism Australia. Additionally, he has served as Executive Director of the Australian Tourism Industry Council, further solidifying his expertise in the sector. As he steps into his new role at the AAA, Mr.
Westaway’s vast industry knowledge and leadership are expected to drive innovation and support the growth of Australia’s airport network amid an evolving travel landscape. AAA Chair Kym Meys said Mr Westaway’s appointment reflected his depth of industry knowledge and pedigree for successfully engaging with the highest levels of government. “As we navigate through major reforms in the aviation sector, including the initiatives of the Aviation White Paper, we’re thankful to have Simon joining the AAA team,” Ms Meys said.
“Aviation continues to recover from the setbacks of the Covid-19 pandemic and Simon is well placed to help address the industry’s issues and deliver outcomes for our members and passengers.” Mr Westaway said he was excited to be working on behalf of Australia’s critical $105 bil.
