Working from home has many perks - like sleeping in, wearing comfy clothes, saving money on transport, just to name a few. Plus, you technically can work from anywhere. As a result, hush trips are becoming increasingly popular among Aussies, particularly from younger generations.

This is where employees secretly work from a holiday destination without telling their boss, pretending they're still at home. They'll still work during the day, but they're doing it while travelling . Also called ' quiet vacationing ', most people who were fans of the idea said it was a win-win: you're making the most of flexible working conditions while also avoiding the need to take annual leave. The thinking is that if you can log on and handle all your job duties remotely, why does your actual location matter? Some travellers have even gone as far as using a VPN to disguise their IP address and location so it looks like they're still at home. IHG Hotels & Resorts has launched bespoke 'Hush Trip' packages for destinations across the country, making it easier for employees to sneakily work from the road. To sweeten the deal, they've even included a guarantee that if they get caught by their boss, they'll receive their next stay at an IHG hotel completely free. The perks for booking a hush trip vary across properties and include espresso martinis in branded 'I Promise This Is Coffee', complimentary 5pm knock-off drinks, and even dedicated 'WFH' assistants who will field calls, manage printing needs and run errands.

Hush trips are in line with the "Anti-Work Movement" which has been gaining attraction in the last few years. According to PwC Australia's 2023 Future of Work Outlook it reflects "a sentiment whereby people are turning their backs on long hours, poor job quality, discretionary effort, and seeking greater purpose and impact with the work that they do."
