It might be spring in Australia, but other parts of the world are seeing the leaves turn. And while New England in the USA is one of the most famous places to experience autumn, or fall, as they call it, it didn't come out top in a recent survey. Long haul travel firm, Travelbag analysed Instagram hashtag volumes and Google search data to discover the most picturesque global autumn destinations to visit this year.

Here are the best places to go - including some Aussie choices for when the time comes here. Japan is more associated with the colourful cherry blossoms of spring, but it's also a popular place to see the red and orange hues of autumn leaves.
