Thursday, September 19, 2024 Auberge Resorts Collection, renowned for its exceptional portfolio of unique luxury hotels, resorts, and residences, proudly announces that Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Resorts Collection, will open its doors for reservations starting March 2, 2025. This enchanting 16th-century property, nestled on a hillside overlooking Florence’s UNESCO-recognized Centro Storico, is steeped in history and shaded by ancient oak trees that give it its name. With breathtaking views of Florence’s architectural gems and stunning sunsets, Collegio alla Querce blends the elegance of a Tuscan country estate with the charm of a serene urban hideaway, offering guests and locals a fresh perspective on the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Once a prestigious center of learning for over a century, Collegio alla Querce gazes over Florence’s iconic Duomo and its sea of terracotta rooftops. From 1774 onwards, the brightest minds of Europe walked its marble corridors, leading to the library, theatre, and chapel, as well as its beautifully manicured gardens. Today, under the visionary leadership of Analjit Singh, founder of the Leeu Collection, the property has been transformed into an elegant 83-room hotel, expertly blending historic character with modern luxury.

Esteva i Esteva, the celebrated Spanish father-son architectural duo, led the restoration, while local design firm ArchFlorence infused the interiors with sophisticated Florentine flair. The hotel features exquisite guest rooms and suites, five distinct dining venues – including the remarkable Bar Bertelli housed in the former principal’s office – and a tranquil Auberge Spa, offering a timeless escape in the heart of Florence. “We are thrilled to expand our European footprint by welcoming Florence and Collegio alla Querce into the Auberge family,” said Christian Clerc, President and CEO, Auberge Resorts Collection .

“Collegio alla Querce has long been a Florence icon and an integral part of the fabric of this globally-beloved city. We are immensely excited to transform this jewel into Europe’s finest urban resort, where locals and guests can enjoy a highly curated lifestyle experience defined by cultural and artistic enrichment, outstanding gastronomy, and unforgettable moments.” Upon arriving at Collegio alla Querce, Auberge Resorts Collection, or returning from exploring Florence’s timeless landmarks like the Piazza del Duomo, Uffizi Gallery, or Ponte Vecchio—all just a short drive away—guests are embraced by a tranquil, nature-ensconced retreat.

This sanctuary is as serene as it is lively, with four levels of restored Medici-inspired terraced gardens, designed by landscape artist Franchesca Watson. These gardens cascade down to the inviting swimming pool, framed by towering oaks, alongside an alfresco bar and restaurant. Indoors, soaring windows bring the lush beauty of the gardens into focus, while 66 guest rooms, 16 suites, and the opulent 2,300-square-foot Quercia Suite exude elegance and charm.

The hotel artfully blends Renaissance heritage with contemporary Italian design. Hand-painted frescoes, coffered wood ceilings, and locally sourced materials pair with modern furnishings to create a luxurious yet authentic atmosphere. Each suite is uniquely designed, with spacious living areas, stone bathrooms, and private terraces offering unparalleled views of the Florentine skyline or Tuscan countryside.

For the ultimate indulgence, the Quercia Suite, located in the privately accessed Palazzo Moderno, boasts two living rooms, a butler’s kitchen, a rooftop terrace, and a private plunge pool. In a city revered for its culinary excellence, Collegio alla Querce is set to become a dining destination in its own right. Celebrating the finest Tuscan ingredients, the hotel offers five distinct dining experiences.

La Gamella, the destination restaurant, spills out from the elegant orangerie into a Baroque garden, serving seasonal Italian classics throughout the day. The Chef’s Table at La Gamella is a hub for interactive dining and culinary masterclasses, perfect for indulging in local flavors or enjoying an evening aperitivo. For a more casual atmosphere, the Conservatorio offers all-day dining in an atrium setting, while the poolside Café Focolare invites guests to linger under a vine-covered trellis with pizzas, burgers, and Florence’s famous paninis.

As night falls, Bar Bertelli—once the headmaster’s office—becomes the star of the show. Hand-rolled Italian cigars and unconventional cocktails are served alongside bites inspired by the far-flung lands once studied in the school’s original history books. The bar’s decor is infused with memorabilia from the school’s natural history archives, lending a curious and captivating atmosphere to this unique venue.

Guests seeking relaxation and rejuvenation can indulge at Aelia, the hotel’s Auberge Spa. Inspired by the local vineyards and olive groves, the spa offers treatments that blend ancient Tuscan wellness traditions with modern science. Aelia’s four treatment suites, including two with private pools and one with a steam room, provide the ultimate in privacy and luxury, ensuring a deeply personalized and restorative experience.

Collegio alla Querce also offers immersive cultural experiences that showcase the best of Florence. Guests can participate in chef-led cooking classes, go truffle hunting, or embark on private wine tastings in the vineyards of Chianti. The hotel regularly hosts events with local winemakers, renowned chefs, and artists for unforgettable dining experiences and workshops.

Behind-the-scenes tours of Florence’s fashion ateliers, perfume labs, and art restoration studios allow guests to explore the city’s hidden gems in a truly unique way. The property’s breathtaking views of Florence and its historic gardens make it an ideal venue for special events. Whether it’s a lavish wedding on Terrazza dell’Arco or an intimate gathering in the private dining room, Collegio alla Querce offers elegant spaces for any occasion.

The restored chapel, La Cappella, provides a stunning backdrop for ceremonies, while Il Teatro, the original theatre with its grand stage and balcony, sets the scene for unforgettable celebrations. This exciting opening marks a period of strategic expansion for Auberge Resorts Collection across Europe and urban markets. Collegio alla Querce will soon be joined by Cambridge House in Mayfair, London, slated to open in late 2025.

These new properties add to Auberge’s growing European portfolio, which includes Domaine des Etangs in France and Grace Hotel in Santorini. Auberge is also preparing to open several new urban properties in the U.S.

, including The Shore Club in Miami Beach, The Knox in Dallas, and The Hearst Hotel in San Francisco..
