An Atlanta-based drug supplier who operated in Middle Georgia is facing more than 28 years for selling lethal amounts of fentanyl, the U.S. Attorney’s Office of the Middle District of Georgia said on Thursday.

Lagary Williams pleaded guilty on Oct. 30, 2023, for conspiring to distribute controlled substances. He was sentenced on Thursday in front of District Judge Marc Treadwell.

His 28-year prison term will be followed by five years of supervised release. According to the U.S.

Attorney’s office, Williams mocked the death of a man who overdosed on his fentanyl supply in a wiretapped phone call with a distributor. The Georgia Bureau of Investigations received information in July 2020 regarding dealers distributing fentanyl in Milledgeville. A man named Damon Hayes was identified as a multi-kilogram distributor of methamphetamine and powder and crack cocaine.

He bought drugs in bulk from Williams’ luxury high-rise apartment in downtown Atlanta, according to the U.S. Attorney’s office.

Williams was recorded through wiretap laughing about a victim’s poisoning death from his fentanyl and being aware of the high strength of fentanyl he was selling, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

Wiretaps recorded information on Sept. 10, 2021, that Hayes would be seeing Williams for a drug re-supply meeting. A federal search warrant from the Northern District of Georgia was used that day, which found Williams with a man named Brandon Ector.

Both jumped out of their balcony to evade capture but were arrested later on. Agents found 2.5 kilograms of fentanyl, one kilogram of methamphetamine, two kilograms of cocaine, 50 grams of cocaine base, approximately seven pounds of marijuana, a pistol and a handgun in Williams’ luxury apartment.

An indictment filed a year later charged Williams, Hayes, Ector and eight others for being part of a drug-trafficking ring. They all eventually pleaded guilty to their charges. “Fentanyl and methamphetamine have taken a terrible toll on our communities,” said Robert J.

Murphy, special agent in charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration Atlanta division. “This drug distributor and his associates will now face the consequences of their actions.”.
