Two people were arrested after around 200 people gathered for an illegal rave at a historic castle overnight. People across Horwich and Blackrod reported being kept awake into the early hours of Sunday by loud music and lights coming from Liverpool Castle at Rivington. Police have confirmed they arrived on the scene in the early hours and made two arrests.

A Lancashire Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Rivington Lane, Rivington, at 1.18am today, October 27, following multiple calls about an illegal rave. “Our officers attended and found around 200 people present, as well as loud music, lights, lasers and drones.



Horwich Clean Up Brigade members arrived to help clear the area up (Image: Phil Taylor) “Although the majority of people dispersed when our officers arrived, we dispersed those who remained from the area. “Two people were arrested on suspicion of drug driving and remain in custody at this time. “They are a 21-year-old man from Burnley and a 34-year-old man from Stockport.

” Several bags of rubbish were collected (Image: Phil Taylor) The rave had been fully dispersed by later on Sunday morning and members of the Horwich Clean Up Bridge arrived to help clear up rubbish that had been left behind. Horwich Clean Up Bridge member Ray Scholes said his wife had been kept awake into the early hours of Sunday by the music. He cleared up around a bag full of rubbish after arriving at Liverpool Castle and was soon joined by more group members.
