Tuesday, January 21, 2025 Severe winter weather in the United States has prompted Emirates to cancel flights to and from Houston, Texas, disrupting travel plans between the US and UAE. As a powerful Arctic blast grips much of the country, the airline announced on its website that flights EK211 (Dubai to Houston) and EK212 (Houston to Dubai) scheduled for January 21 were canceled due to the extreme weather conditions. Emirates expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers, directing affected travelers to contact their local office or travel agents for rebooking options.

The Arctic blast, which began over the weekend, has caused significant disruptions to air travel across the United States, with thousands of flights delayed or canceled. Major airports along the East Coast and Gulf Coast are particularly affected, as snow and icy conditions have made operations challenging. As of Monday, flight-tracking service FlightAware reported nearly 1,700 cancellations for Tuesday, with Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) and Hobby Airport (HOU) seeing over 90% of their scheduled departures scrapped.

The travel chaos extends beyond Houston, affecting key hubs in the Northeast, including Newark Liberty, JFK, LaGuardia, and Boston Logan. Airlines such as United Airlines, Qatar Airways, American Airlines, KLM, Delta, JetBlue, Air Canada, Air France, Virgin Atlantic, Republic Airlines, and Finnair have also struggled to maintain operations amid the adverse wea.
