Manchester artist Antony Szmierek has announced the release of his debut album, ‘Service Station At The End Of The Universe’, out February 26th via Mushroom Music/Virgin Music Group. Szmierek teases the album experience with feel-good single, ‘The Great Pyramid Of Stockport’, a number that melds yarns of spoken-word about monolithic hometown symbols, with the need to dream big and aspire to greatness, over pulsating, dancefloor-ready production. Speaking about the song, Szmierek comments: “Stockport Council abandoned plans for a Valley of the Kings themed shopping plaza, leaving only an empty pyramid behind.
Nobody really knows what the pyramids in Giza are for. What we do know is that we’re not here long, and that the impossible is more possible than we think it is, motivationally speaking. That big blue pyramid serves as a reminder that human beings never really change – even if our pyramids are now by the side of motorways and full of office space.
” 2023 EP ‘ Poems to Dance To ’ teased a more propulsive direction for Szmierek – an assemblage of self-referential stories delivered with lackadaisical precision over club-skewed beatscapes. While Szmierek’s debut full-length continues this brisk blast of up-tempo rumination, it also veers into a more downbeat and darker lyrical terrain. The album is produced by Szmierek with core collaborators Robin Parker, Max Rad, Louie Fulford-Smith, and fresh Mancunian talent Yves Jones.
