What used to be an annual Japanese autumn festival traditionally held around November on Guam will now become a Japanese spring festival, which has now been set for April 12, 2025 at the Governor Joseph Flores Memorial Beach Park or Ypao Beach Park in Tumon. The Japan Club of Guam announced the decision to change the date of the annual festival to the spring season after careful consideration and in response to concerns regarding the typhoon season around autumn months. The festival formerly known as Akimatsuri is evolving, and in 2025, attendees will have the opportunity to embrace the beauty of spring with the Guam Japan Festival, the organization said.

The event will now welcome the vibrant season of cherry blossoms, offering attendees a unique and revitalized celebration of Japanese culture. From traditional Bon-odori dancing to Mikoshi processions and Kingyo-sukui (goldfish scooping), the festival promises a rich tapestry of activities for all ages. As always, attendees can indulge in a variety of Japanese culinary delights, such as yakisoba noodles, yakitori skewers, okonomiyaki pancakes, and an array of desserts, sake, and beer.

The festival has seen remarkable growth over the years, with last year’s event attracting over 39,000 residents and tourists. The Japan Club of Guam is also seeking sponsors, vendors and performers for the festival. For more information, contact (671) 646-8066 or email jpclub@teleguam.
