NEW DELHI: Sharad Pawar , chief of the Nationalist Congress Party-SCP, expressed concern over the increasing violence and sexual assaults against women in Maharashtra . Pawar's comments come in the wake of a recent rape case in Pune. Discussing the government's Ladki Bahin Scheme , which aims to provide financial benefits to women, Pawar highlighted the contrasting rise in atrocities against women.

On one hand, the attempt to provide financial help to women through the Ladki Bahin Scheme and on the other hand, the atrocities against women are increasing continuously, due to which a lot of anger is increasing among the people," Pawar stated. The incident Pawar referred to involved a 16-year-old girl from a city-based college in Pune, who was allegedly raped on September 27. Four suspects have been apprehended by Pune Police.
In another incident, a 21-year-old woman was allegedly raped by three unknown men in the Bopdev Ghat area in Pune on Thursday night, according to Kondwa police reports. NCP-SCP working president Supriya Sule criticized the state home department for not addressing the issue effectively. She expressed her anger at the incident and questioned the safety of women in Pune and the state.
