In a recent interview, Batman-fame actor Colin Farrell revealed that his 20-year-old son is suffering from a rare disorder called Angelman Syndrome. The condition, which affects around 5,00,000 people around the globe, is caused due to a genetic mutation that delays brain development. Those suffering from it also struggle with balance, and speech and experience seizures at times.

Apparently, it is not possible to detect the syndrome at birth and its symptoms become prevalent only between the ages of 6 and 12. Though managing symptoms is possible through medication, there is no cure. How do you check whether children have symptoms of Angelman syndrome? Here's what you should know: Possible symptoms According to Mayo Clinic, if children exhibit the following symptoms, they can be considered as symptoms of Angelman Syndrome: 1) No speech or very little speech 2) No crawling or babbling till 12 months 3) Finds it tough to balance, move and walk 4) Always has a happy demeanour and smiles often 5) Finds it tough to feed 6) Finds it tough to sleep or stay asleep 7) Seizures between the ages of 2 and 3.



8) Tongue thrusting 9) Eyes, skin and hair that are light in colour 10) Cross eyes and curved spine 11) Jerky or stiff movements.
