Sunday, November 10, 2024 Andhra Pradesh launched its first seaplane service with a trial run between Srisailam and Vijayawada, marking a milestone in enhancing tourism and improving accessibility to key destinations. This new 45-minute seaplane service connects travelers to popular spots like the Srisailam temple, Tiger Reserve, and the iconic dam, promising to bolster local tourism and create employment opportunities. The state government is considering expanding this initiative by establishing more water aerodromes to improve connectivity to remote areas across Andhra Pradesh.
For the launch, the De Havilland Twin Otter Classic 300 seaplane, which arrived from Ahmedabad, took off from a dedicated 500-meter runway near Prakasam Barrage. The route includes a 2-kilometer waterway, with a 120-meter-wide runway featuring a turn toward the shore and a landing jetty. Viewing areas were set up at Punnami Ghat and Durga Ghat, allowing spectators to witness the seaplane’s debut, while security was enhanced around the launch site.
The seaplane will continue its journey to Mysuru and Lakshadweep as part of a ceremonial introduction of seaplane services across India. Since the country first introduced seaplane services in Gujarat four years ago, routes have expanded, with the Twin Otter Classic 300 set to visit additional cities, offering travelers unique access to scenic destinations nationwide..
