Saturday, September 21, 2024 Andhra Pradesh plans two major Buddhist Tourism Circuits to boost cultural ties with Vietnam, promoting heritage sites and fostering tourism collaboration. Vijayawada, Sep 20 – Andhra Pradesh’s Tourism Minister Kandula Durgesh announced plans to establish two major Buddhist Tourism Circuits in the state. Speaking at the Andhra Pradesh-Vietnam Tourism Conclave 2024, held in a Vijayawada hotel, Durgesh highlighted the government’s commitment to promoting Buddhist heritage sites and fostering stronger cultural ties with Vietnam.
Over 200 representatives from both countries attended the conclave, which aims to deepen tourism and cultural exchange between Andhra Pradesh and Vietnam. Minister Durgesh emphasized the state’s rich Buddhist heritage, pointing out its numerous historical sites and pilgrimage destinations. He explained that Andhra Pradesh is home to significant Buddhist landmarks, including the Dhanyakatak (Amaravati), the Mahastupas in Bhattiprolu, and the rock caves in Guntupalli.
The state’s deep connection to Mahayana Buddhism makes it an ideal location for the proposed circuits, which will attract both domestic and international tourists interested in Buddhist culture and history. Highlighting the Lumbini Festival, a grand celebration of Buddhist heritage in Andhra Pradesh, Durgesh noted its success in drawing large numbers of tourists, especially those interested in spiritual and cultural tourism. The festival serves as a key event to showcase the state’s Buddhist monuments and heritage sites, reinforcing Andhra Pradesh’s role as a prominent destination for Buddhist tourism in India.
Durgesh also stressed the importance of collaboration between Andhra Pradesh and Vietnam in developing hospitality, infrastructure, and eco-tourism sectors. He called for joint ventures that could enhance both states’ tourism offerings while contributing to sustainable development. The Minister noted that in 2022, 37,232 tourists from Vietnam visited India, signaling the potential for further growth in tourism between the two nations.
Vietnam’s representative, H.E. Enguyen Thanaih, expressed optimism about the strengthening ties between India and Vietnam, praising Andhra Pradesh’s tourism initiatives.
He acknowledged the visionary leadership of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and emphasized the importance of continued collaboration. A video presentation showcasing Vietnam’s tourism development was also shared at the conclave, underscoring the mutual benefits of cultural exchange..
