Lucknow: A madrassa teacher going to offer ‘namaz’ was beaten up by a youth in Para area on Monday. He was allegedly mocked for his religious belief, subjected to abusive language, and given a death threat. When the teacher cried for help, a crowd gathered forcing the accused to flee.

However, he later climbed the roof of a house and pelted stones at the victim. The incident came to light after a video of the assault went viral. The police, which reached the spot, registered a case based on the complaint, and arrested the accused.

The complainant, said the accused first stopped him on the way and threatened him with dire consequences. “He caught my collar and pushed me down. Then he started beating me,” he said.

According to the police, Mohammad Yunus was going to offer namaz after his tuition to children. On the way, Jitendra, of Fatehganj, forcibly stopped him and abused him. “I ignored his words and started moving ahead.

Then the accused grabbed my throat and started threatening to kill me. After this, he picked up a stone lying nearby and pounced at me,” he said. Yunus said that Jitendra whipped out a sharp-edged weapon and ran after him while training the weapon on him.

“I started crying for help to save my life, and a crowd gathered there. Seeing people gathering, Jitendra ran inside his house and closed the door. Then he reached the roof and pelted stones from there,” he said.
