Tributes have poured in for former WWE Champion Sid following his tragic death, with fans quick to share the same iconic memory of the star. The star, who wrestled under character names Sid Justice and Sycho Sid among others for much of the 1990s, was a dominant performer in the ring, but battled health issues in recent years. Announcing his death at the age of 63 on Facebook, the athlete’s son, Gunnar Eudy wrote : “I am deeply saddened to share that my father, Sid Eudy, has passed away after battling cancer for several years.

“He was a man of strength, kindness, and love, and his presence will be greatly missed. We appreciate your thoughts and prayers as we grieve this loss. Details for a memorial service will be shared soon.

Thank you for your support.” A menacing heel – on screen bad guy – for much of his career, Sid broke into the industry at the end of the 1980s, switching from WCW for WWE in 1991 where, as Sid Justice, he battled alongside and against Hulk Hogan, wrestling the icon at WrestleMania VIII in 1992. He switched between WWE and WCW again later in the decade, winning the WWE title at Madison Square Garden at Survivor Series in 1996, dethroning Shawn Michaels.

He held the top gold until WrestleMania the following year when his reign was ended by The Undertaker, time on the independents then following before a return to WCW before the turn of the millennium. Sid was robbed of months of his wrestling career in 2001 when, landing awkwardly in a WCW mat.
