Home developers Bellway has completed on a land deal on Golborne Road, with planning consent granted by Warrington Borough Council for the development. The site, which is 15 acres in size, was formerly privately owned farmland. With the build due to start by the end of the month, the land will be transformed into a ‘picturesque development’ comprising a mix of three- and four-bedroom homes.

READ > First contracts awarded to suppliers for St Helens town centre transformation Originally the plans were met with multiple objections, with a planning development committee having met in December last year to make a final decision on the proposed development. In total, 149 representations have been received in relation to the proposals, which were submitted in February, all in objection except for one. Campaign group Warrington Action Against Inappropriate Development opposed the plans, which it described as ‘not viable due to excessive traffic’.

The group claimed: “The area is gridlocked most mornings, and with the poor infrastructure around the town, our members are concerned.” Members also objected to the plans on the grounds that: “The unattractive housing designs are not in character with the beautiful village and surrounding area.” Despite this, the plans have been given the green light to go ahead, and the development will be known as St Oswald's Place.

Bellway states the houses will appeal to a family audience and will offer an array of semi-detached and detac.
