A visit to a nature reserve to see the autumn colours resulted in some beautiful wildlife images. Argus Camera Club snapper Tom Shakespeare visited Warnham Nature Reserve near Horsham on a rainy day this week and photographed different animals across the woodland area. His detailed images include a duck enjoying a swim in a pond and an appealing little squirrel having a rest on a log.
Tom also snapped a beautiful great spotted woodpecker getting ready to start pecking at the tree and two mallard ducks, a male and female, in mid flight. The 92-acre site, owned and managed by Horsham District Council, was designated a Local Nature Reserve in 1988. It provides a haven for a variety of wildlife with more than 400 species of plants and over 100 species of bird.
There is a thriving heronry, plenty of wildfowl and all three species of woodpecker. Five bird hides and two viewing screens are strategically placed across the reserve, offering a host of opportunities for bird watchers and photographers..
