Mohammed Asim Afzal, from Newton Mearns , said he wouldn't be here without Asim's generous donation in 2012. Asim, 49, who shares two daughters, Aliah and Zia, with Noor, was diagnosed with a rare kidney disease called focal segmental glomerulosclerosis (FSGS) in 2001, but it was not until 2012 that his kidneys failed.

He needed continuous dialysis to stay alive, and it was only Noor’s decision to donate a kidney that saved Asim from facing years of waiting for a compatible kidney from a deceased donor. Twelve years since the transplant, Asim's kidney continues to function well he said he is forever grateful to Noor. Speaking to Glasgow Live , Asim added: "My wonderful, beautiful, passionate wife gave me my life back.

My mum died aged 41 and my dad died aged 64, both relatively young, and I was worried history was repeating itself. Noor gave me a second chance at life. Without her, I would not be here.
