There's no better feeling than sliding into crisp, fresh bedding after a shower - but how often do we really indulge in this luxury? The debate over how frequently to clean bed linens is not new, and not doing it often enough can lead to a build-up of dust mites and foul smells. In a recent TikTok video @anna_louisa_at_home showcased her regular sheet change, while an audio clip played over the top of the footage. A lady was heard saying she changes her sheets "every Sunday" as a reset ritual, leaving a male voice astonished: "Every Sunday? Every Sunday?!" "Swear on my life, you know I do," she replied.

The male voice then challenged viewers to confess their own habits in the comments. And the answers were eye-opening. Health experts from Healthline warn that neglecting your sheets means cuddling up with fungi, bacteria, pollen, animal fur, and other less savoury things like bodily fluids, sweat, and dead skin cells.

And pesky dust mites are not just gross; they trigger allergic reactions like rashes too. Hence, if your last sheet swap was ages ago, it might be time to sort it out. Responses to the post ranged from a casual "like once every few months" and "is it bad I haven't washed it for like 4 months?", to "once a month is more than ok if you go to bed showered with clean pyjamas".

Another person wrote: "The goal is once a week. But realistically it's every 2-3 weeks". Another TikToker proudly claimed they swap their bed sheets "every 2 to 3 days".
