Pune: An IT professional (34) was cheated of Rs 15 lakh by cyber crooks in a parcel fraud between Sept 28-29. The victim, a resident of Model Colony, told Shivajinagar police that crooks posing as Mumbai police officials called her saying they were representatives of a global courier firm and customs department. They said they intercepted a Canada-bound parcel with her name mentioned as sender.
The parcel contained drugs, a passport, and other material. The crooks then got her in touch with a deputy commissioner of police from Mumbai police for an inquiry. Shivajinagar police's senior inspector, Chandrashekar Sawant, on Wednesday said, "The crook got the victim on a video call where the caller collected all her bank details, Aadhaar card details and asked her to transfer money for ‘verification of her bank transactions' as her involvement was suspected in a money laundering case.
" She transferred Rs 15 lakh from her bank account to their two accounts and lost all, the police said..
