A heartbroken family has paid tribute to a woman feared to have drowned while diving at a beauty spot. Emily Sherwin, 20, failed to surface following a scuba dive off Old Harry Rocks near Swanage, Dorset, at 6pm on Tuesday. Her disappearance prompted a massive 24-hour air and sea search involving lifeboats, coastguards, police dive teams and helicopters.

More than 30 boats from Parkstone Yacht Club, where Emily had worked, also joined in the search. But despite their best efforts, including multiple dives in the area no sign of her was found. Emily, from Poole, had been studying marine conservation at Plymouth University and diving was a passion of hers.

Her devastated family released a statement saying they take comfort in knowing Emily died doing something she loved. They said: “We are heartbroken at the loss of Emily, but eternally grateful for the 20 wonderful years we had with her, and finding comfort in the fact that she was doing something she loved. "We will miss her forever.
