Elizabeth Swain, 58, whose address was given as Ottawa Street in Belfast, appeared before Lisburn Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 1, charged with causing grievous bodily injury due to careless driving. The court heard that on Thursday, December 17, 2020 at 8.15pm, police were tasked to a road traffic collision on the Comber Road in Lisburn involving three vehicles.

It was stated that the first vehicle was a delivery van that was parked and vacant at the side of the road. The second vehicle was being driven by the defendant.

She moved onto the opposite side of the road to overtake the parked van and collided head-on with a third vehicle travelling in the other direction. The injured party sustained injuries, including a punctured lung and broken jaw. It was said the defendant also sustained injuries in the collision.
