Pune: A 23-year-old data analyst with a private firm in Nanded City, Arti Suresh Manwani, was run over by a ready-mix concrete truck after she jumped over a median while crossing Karve Road on Wednesday morning. The accident occurred in front of the PMPML Kothrud bus stand around 11.20pm.

Though the heavy vehicle driver fled the spot immediately after the accident, he was arrested later in the day. The accident disrupted traffic for a while on the busy stretch. Police diverted vehicles through the bus stand premises till the road was cleared for traffic.

Truck driver Sakim Ansari, who ran away after abandoning the vehicle at the location, was arrested by the Alankar police. The truck belongs to the owner of a ready-mix concrete plant in Warje and was headed towards Karishma Chowk at the time. Eyewitness Salim Rasik Pathan (50), a resident of Kothrud, lodged a complaint about the accident with the police.

Senior inspector Sunita Rokade of the Alankar police told TOI, "Manwani hailed from Amravati district and was residing in a private hostel in Bhelkenagar, Kothrud. She was on her way to board a bus from Kothrud stand to reach her workplace when the accident occurred. We have informed her father, who is on his way to Pune as of Wednesday evening.

" Rokade added, "As Manwani went to catch the bus in the morning, she climbed the median and jumped onto the other side of the road in front of the stand. At this point, the truck was driving down from Dahanukar Circle to Karve Statue .
