Love cheese and hate leftovers? A Turton wine and cheese bar is selling discounted cheese ‘boards in a box’ to help with the cost of living and tackle food waste – joining initiatives like Too Good To Go. The Slaughtered House , at the back of Turton Wines on Darwen Road , is selling cut-price cheese boards available for pick-up on Sundays. They will have a selection of cheese, “wonky” crackers, olives, dips, pâtés, pork pies, bread and fruit.

The bar will post about the deal on its social media on weekends. Customers are asked to check The Slaughtered House’s stories to see how many will be available on a given week. The ‘board boxes’ may have more in each bag on certain weeks and less in others.

The price will reflect the offer. Izzy Darlington, assistant manager, said: “We’ve set up our ‘Don’t Chuck the Cheese’ scheme to reduce food waste and give back to our customers. Cheese 'boards in a box' (Image: Izzy Darlington) “Our cheese, pork pies and bread are fresh weekly.

“We’re only open Friday to Sunday and often have produce left over from the weekend. “It would ordinarily just go in the bin. But we've decided to pop it in boxes made up with crackers, fruit, chutney and such.

“And sold for a cheaper price than our usual cheese boards. “With the current climate, many people aren’t able to spend much. “We want to give back so people can have a taste of our cheese boards at home for a fraction of the price and help the environment.
