A residential park between Chippenham and Swindon could be extended with an extra 14 mobile homes if Wiltshire Council approves a recent planning application. Lillybrook Estate is situated on the outskirts of Lyneham, by the village of Bradenstoke, and provides “luxury park home living for the over 50s”. The new mobile homes would be installed on the west of the Lillybrook Estate along with a new gazebo area for “summer barbeques”, “outdoor parties” and other celebrations.

(Image: Google) The land in question was previously underdeveloped because it had provided the flight path and associated landing lights for an RAF Lyneham runway since World War 2. However, according to the application, since the closure of the RAF station, the Ministry of Defence has removed the restrictive covenants and associated development restrictions.
The consequent proposal is described as “modest” and an “efficient use of the land”, with the development unseen “from many views”, including from Hollow Way. The consultation is open to the public until the end of August and Wiltshire Council is expected to make its decision by Wednesday, September 25. All planning applications submitted to the council can be viewed on the planning and building control public register.
