Former Pop Idol winner Will Young has candidly opened up on his drug taking past and revealed what made him stop the addictive cycle. The singer, 45, confessed to taking drugs during a "wild phase" in his life which coincided with his dramatic rise to fame. After winning the reality TV contest at the age of 22 in 2002, Will found overnight fame and success.
However, he said it was a time that saw him try drugs, admitting he was "terrible" at doing so. Opening up to Jamie Laing on his Great Company podcast, the Evergreen singer explained how a friend's comments made him realise this wasn't the path for him. Will explained: "I had my sort of like, wild phase.
I remember thinking, Oh, I should take some drugs now, because I'd never taken drugs. You know? I remember the drug dealer getting me in his car, and then he brought his girlfriend around to meet me. That's how he's going mad.
" Despite labelling that situation "so funny," he continued: "I tried that for a bit, and then I remember my friend saying to me, you're not a very good drug taker. I don't think you're a drug taker. I said, I think you're right!" The candid confession comes shortly after Will revealed his reasons for quitting Strictly Come Dancing in 2016.
