Singer Will Young has opened up for the first time about his decision to leave Strictly Come Dancing , revealing that he felt he had no choice but to exit due to severe agoraphobia and felt "pressured" to continue by his team. During his stint on the BBC show in 2016 the Pop Idol winner withdrew after three weeks, at the time citing personal reasons. The 45-year-old singer expressed at the time his joy at being able to participate in one of Britain's most cherished TV shows, saying he left with "joy in my heart that I have been able to take part in one of the most-loved shows on British television".

In a candid conversation with Rylan Clark on his BBC podcast How To Be In The Spotlight Young admitted: "I tried to pull out of it but I was sort of pressured to do it." He disclosed the pressure he faced, including a warning: "It was sort of like: 'Well, if you pull out, the BBC will never work with you again'." Young explained his mental health struggles during the show: "That was one of the things that was said to me so I did it but I knew I wasn't well enough.
